I’m the guy who pretends to be in charge around here.

I’m a recovering nerd from Western Canada, who dabbles in everything, and specializes in nothing. I say that I am recovering from my past nerd life, simply because I am in the process of rediscovering just how fantastic it is to explore new, and wondrous things in the arena of technology. In other words, I am recovering by becoming a nerd again.

My areas of interest tend to be fairly specific. I’m a fan of practical applications of technology, specifically in the arena of communication. Anything that makes it easier to communicate with other people, gets two thumbs up from me.

I spend most of my time sitting in front of a Compaq Laptop, that currently has Ubuntu 6.10 installed on it. I’ve been an avid Linux user for the better part of of the last decade, and I am most at home in a Openbox/Gnome environment, with a couple of terminals open. My migration to Ubuntu, over Vanilla Debian, was spurred by the SATA card in my laptop not being supported by the Debian Installer several months ago, and my search for a simple solution. That solution will most likely change with the next release of Debian, aka Etch.

Most of what you will see me comment on around here, will be regarding the limitations of our current technology. I’m a great believer in using technology to make our lives easier to live, but unfortunately, it has been my experience that we just are not quite there yet. I long for the day, when stuff just works, the way it is supposed to, each and every time.
