Mixed feelings

My laptop died a spectacular death the other night.

Everything on it was working mostly fine,but I had decided that after playing with xubuntu, on my EEE PC for the last few weeks, that I wanted to give it a go on the big beast.

Asus Eee PC (701)

So…

I jumped on the Eee PC Bandwagon about a week ago, and bought a black 701 series.

For those that have no idea what I am talking about, the Eee PC is, simply the smallest fully functioning laptop that I have ever laid my hands on. Let’s get the specs out of the way.

Gutsy is right.

So, I got adventurous last night and installed the Gutsy Gibbon Beta on my laptop. The hard disk that came with the machine had died, and I have replaced it with a new 7200 RPM Seagate job, so a reinstall was needed anyway.

Debian 4.0

So…

In what seems like the shortest incubation period of anything, ever, the Debian dev’s have released Debian GNU/Linux 4.0, aka Etch, as stable.

I immediately downloaded the three DVD images (I’m weird that way, i like having the full distribution to install, instead of doing a net-install) and went nuts with the install, loving that I could get “back home” as it would be.

I want a new toy.

I’m a complete media whore.

1000 CD’s, more than 20,000 mp3’s, 200 DVD’s and several dozen full length DivX and mpg movies.

I’m constantly surrounded by media, and I absorb it without barriers.

Our current batch of portable, media friendly hardware, sucks ass though. I’m looking for something simple, and I have spent a few weeks, and countless searches on google, to no avail.
