New Media Box!
I bought the sum of the parts, to build myself a new media box today.
Let’s just get the parts list out of the way, shall we?

I’m a complete media whore.
1000 CD’s, more than 20,000 mp3’s, 200 DVD’s and several dozen full length DivX and mpg movies.
I’m constantly surrounded by media, and I absorb it without barriers.
Our current batch of portable, media friendly hardware, sucks ass though. I’m looking for something simple, and I have spent a few weeks, and countless searches on google, to no avail.
I’ve been using Vonage for about a month now, and I am finally, very happy with the service.
The initial problems that I had with setup have completely disappeared, and the service has been flawless since then.
Call clarity has been wonderful, tough to tell from a standard land line, and I have come to the conclusion that most of the static that I head in the background is due to this craptacular quality of Angela’s land line. It’s crystal clear if I call anyone else. Just some old copper in PA I guess.
So, I finally am able to experience this VoIP thing, as it is meant to be.
After 3 days of head banging frustration (more on that later) I was finally able to get my PAP2 up and running.
I’m in the middle of my first call right now, and what I am willing to say, so far, is that the sound quality is acceptable. It’s not wonderful, there is a static buzzing in the background, but I am cheating at using my cell phone, so that might have something to do with it. I am not sure yet. More on how I am using the cell phone later. =)
So, I have been using Opiate for the last four months as my primary machine.
All in all, I am exceptionally happy with this machine. It has proven with a couple of small exceptions, to be an incredibly robust, and reliable machine. It accomplishes everything that Stinkfist did for me, as well as being mobile.
Let’s start out with the bad, and get that out of the way, shall we?
